Marla Sullivan
Marla Sullivan is proud to be a Texas educator. She retired in January 2020 after 30 years of service in the Central Texas area. Marla graduated from Kilgore Jr. College with an Associate of Arts degree and completed her Bachelor's in Music Education at Baylor University. After teaching elementary music for a few years, she attended the University of Texas at Austin to complete her Master's Degree in Education. She later completed her mid-management certification through Tarleton Central Texas.
During her 30-year career, Marla taught music (PK-5th), reading (5th and 6th grade), and served as an assistant principal for PK-6th grades. She finished her career as an elementary principal (PK-5th grades). In addition to numerous local awards, Marla was a state semi-finalist for HEB Teacher of the Year and was recognized as Region 12 Assistant Principal of the Year. She has published two articles on the topics of campus culture and social emotional learning in the ATPE (Association for Texas Professional Educators) Journal (Winter 2017, 2019).
Since retirement, Marla and her husband have moved to Hallsville, Texas where she is active as a substitute teacher, tutors at Sylvan Learning Center, and mentors new teachers through an alternative certification program. Marla and her husband have two boxers, a tuxedo kitty, and are the proud grandparents to two amazing grandkids! In her spare time, Marla enjoys cooking, writing, and spending time at the gym.
